PICKIN' UP SCHOOL SPIRIT
Sept. 23, 1976

Editorial

Every year about this time, the Scroll publishes an editorial concerning school spirit, or rather, the editor's concern over the lack of it. So, obligingly enough, we bring to you our school spirit editorial.

Before you turn us off, hear us out.

When you go to see a good movie, you tell your friends about it and recommend that they should also see it. If you find a place that is selling something cheaply, you tell your frineds who would be interested so that they might take advantage of the situation. The same aplies to school spirit.

We are not going to tell you that the school cannot get along without you, because if you have been going to athletic games or plays or such, you can see that we have. Sports are going strong, and the attendance at the South Side football game was very good. There are no plans to stop having the plays, musicals, or Sketchbook. So, the school can and does get along fine without you.

It used to be that we did not go to any of the extra-curricular school events either, and they got along fine without us. But over the years, we attended first one game and then another, first one play, then Sketchbook, and we found out that school events can be fun.

From first hand experience, we have found that the sports events may not be pro-class, but nevertheless, seeing people that you know perform puts in an added dimension. Not only that, but there are other people there to see and speak to. We find almost as much fun in watching and meeting people as in the game itself. And the fine arts productions are, contrary to what we had originally anticipated, first-rate, highly polished performances worthy of the comparatively small price they ask for at the ticket office.

If you already attend school functions, ignore this editorial, you already know of what we speak. If you do not, then think about it, because you are only cheating yourself. The school does not need you so badly that we would beg you to come--if anthing, we would like you to stay away so we who go can get out of the parking lot faster and get better seats.
