FIRST SHOW SET LIST

First show set list, The Magic Wok, Orlando, Florida, Dec. 6, 1991.

For some time, I tried to keep a copy of all the band's set lists, although eventually a few disappeared into the chaos of the after-gig. This first set list can tell quite a bit about our shows at the time. We very often began with "Why Can't the Future Be Now?" as we do here. The Star Trek into was a perfect opening device.

One thing here that is atypical is the inclusion of two cover songs. We rarely did covers; not because we couldn't, but we had such divergent interests in music, it was impossible to agree on a song to do when Patman and I had so much material, and John was beginning to write as well. However, we knew how to kiss local ass as well as the next starving band, so we chose to throw in cover tunes from two local bands. "New" refers to "New Start," a song by Potential Frenzy. That band had let me roadie for them and gave me a real education in the nuts and bolts of running a band. This was invaluable when we moved The VIEW to Orlando. "Stand" is a song by Damage, a group that ran its own alternative rock night club and record label, Club Spacefish. These guys were very supportive of all the local bands. Originally, we had meant to play our first show at Club Spacefish, but Potential Frenzy invited us to open for them a few days sooner here at the Magic Wok.

Note the horizontal lines representing breaks in the set for "improvised" banter with the audience! The link between "So Tired" and "Inner Space" shows we played the songs as a continuous medley. The note about the pedal reminds me to adjust my guitar volume before starting the next song.
