Early on, the band decided that we wanted a stage backdrop that would be fairly distinctive and reflect our
group spirit. We considered ourselves rather "out there," and so a picture from the far reaches of space (or at least
the far reaches of Saturn) seemed a good theme with rich visual potential.
Using canvas to paint on was out of the question for a variety of practical reasons, so I bought the largest black
bedsheet I could find at the store. To contrast with the black background, I selected acrylic black light paint for the
image. Even in normal light, the contrast was striking, but under the black lights we toted from gig to gig, the image
practically jumped out at you. It gave the painting the "deep space" depth of field I hoped for. (For the purposes of
capturing the image with a camera, the image of the backdrop above was photographed under a mix of white and black light.)
We took this to most of our shows and hung it up whenever and wherever we could. The thing was pretty huge, and it shows
up in many of the other band photos on this site.
