Answering machine: Third saved message. Saturday, 2:27 pm. Caller: "Eyeball skeleton, eyeball skeleton." Holy shit! How the Hell? What the Hell? How did you come up with that? Hey, man. Oh, that is, that...I loved that. Vocals sounded great. What a, I gotta, I gotta know how you came up with that, the whole concept. It sounds almost like you did some random word thing and, uh, but, uh, man I loved it, loved it. See ya! Answering machine: To save this message press 2. Message saved. |
Commentary
After recording Eyeball Skeleton, I wanted to see what some other people thought of the song before I sent it in to the radio station. I e-mailed a copy to my friend Patman, who appears elsewhere on this album, and didn't tell him that it was a cover song, letting him assume I had written it. I wanted to get his reaction before he found out it was written by young children. He left this response on my answering machine. A harsh critic, Patman tends to take exception to almost anything he didn't have a hand in. The fact he reacted with such gusto made me feel much more confident about subjecting the song to the scrutiny of on-air radio jocks. For its inclusion as a hidden track on the album, I took the liberty of editing out the parts of the message not pertaining to the song. |
