Composition III

1980, oil on canvas, 8" x 50"

Not a conceptual masterpiece, but rather an answer to a practical question: what do you hang in a narrow horizontal space, such as over a door or window? It can't be too detailed since it will be up over people's heads, and the design must somehow balance the awkward shape of the canvas. This design was conceived by cutting up scraps of paper and then pulling them apart.
